Okay—so I read this and immediately thought, Wait, who is this woman?
“Then let your brother Adonijah marry Abishag, the girl from Shunem,” she replied.—1 Kings 2:21 NLT
Why was this such a big deal and so upsetting to Solomon? It seems like a pretty simple request: let Adonijah marry Abishag. What’s the issue? After some digging I saw how much more to it there was....she wasn’t just any woman. Abishag was the one who had cared for and laid beside David in his final days.
This wasn’t just about a woman. It was a heart issue. It’s like Adonijah didn’t just want the throne—he wanted everything that belonged to David. Even the woman who had been with him as he died. Some may say this Is just ambition. It feels a bit more like idolatry to me or even misplaced Identity. Adonijah has a need to possess, imitate, and step into David's very calling. Sadly—I can relate more than I care to admit. There are still moments I find myself untangling what I once thought was a calling, perhaps an anointing, only to realize it might’ve been something I was never meant to chase in the first place. Im learning more and more if it's meant to be it will be.
Again Im realizing If it’s what the Lord has called me to, I know it will be. No matter where I find myself—whether the timing Is off or Im off base In anyway— Lord, as I make plans, please direct my steps.
