1 Kings 12: Order Matters

I’ve been so consumed with winning a listing the last couple of days that I’ve neglected prioritizing the Lord. I don’t even know what got into me. I can read this scripture and think, What on earth, Jeroboam?—and yet, I’m guilty of the same thing. I’ve fallen back into old patterns of striving, replacing His presence with my own effort.
“Therefore the king asked advice, made two calves of gold, and said to the people, ‘It is too much for you to go up to Jerusalem. Here are your gods, O Israel, which brought you up from the land of Egypt!’”— 1 Kings 12:28 NKJV
Jeroboam didn’t just make a poor leadership choice—he offered the people a shortcut. Something that looked spiritual but kept them from God’s appointed way. I do this too when I let busyness or ambition take first place. Old patterns often resurface at the worst times, but I love the Lord's

simple yet direct reminder today as I read: order matters. When God is first, everything else flows in His timing, wisdom, and peace. When He’s not, even good things feel heavier, harder, and hollow.
Lord, I don’t want to build golden calves of my own making—whether that’s achievement, striving, or self-reliance. Help me return to You 1st, reorder my priorities, and trust that Your way is always worth the journey.
