“Blessed [fortunate, prosperous, and favored by God] is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked… but his delight is in the law of the Lord.”

It was the part that said, blessed is the man… who delights in the law of the Lord for me today.

I couldn't help but think of that adorable scene in Jerry Maguire when he says, “You had me at hello.” That’s where Psalm 1 had me today.

You had me at hello
You had me at hello
The minute I read “blessed is the man,” I thought, okay… yes. I want that...I want to be blessed.

Naturally my next question was: what does that actually look like? What does it mean to be considered blessed? Then there It was, just one verse later, it said “delights in the law of the Lord.” As in the Bible? As in God’s Word? As in the wisdom, instruction, and guidance for how to live? It was right there, in the first few verses, the pathway to blessing was summed up so simply: the power, ultimate blessing comes from delighting in the law of the Lord—which is really the Old Testament way of saying -- delighting in the Word of God.

I can’t believe I lived so much of my life not feasting on God’s Word, without delighting in it, Without letting it shape how I think and respond in every area of my life. It’s the filter, the only filter, I want to live life from for the rest of my life.

That was my hello moment today. Psalm 1 had me right from the start.
