Before you read this reflection, pause and read Psalm 34. I always encourage people to read the chapter first so the Lord has space to speak to you directly before hearing what He highlighted for me.

These past few weeks have just been ALOT in many ways. In the last week our local community was shaken by a heartbreaking tragedy when a mother took the lives of her two children and then her own. My heart has been grieving for their extended family and everyone impacted. At home, life has also been full of transition. Keimani is reunifying with his biological mother, which is a beautiful answer to prayer, but it also carries its own grief as our household adjusts. Colton just turned 18 and is navigating college decisions. Parenting teens always brings its own set of challenges and then there’s a difficult professional situation I’ve been walking through with someone I hired for a major project. It has been discouraging, chaotic, and honestly heartbreaking because I hold myself to a high standard in business and relationships.

Yesterday, Psalm 33 carried me through the day: “Our soul waits for the Lord; He is our help and our shield.” (Psalm 33:20)

I repeated that verse over and over. “My soul waits for the Lord. He is my help and my shield.”

I couldn't wait to get in the Word this morning. When I opened Psalm 34 this morning, it felt like the Lord continued the conversation.

David begins with this declaration: “I will bless the Lord at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth.” (Psalm 34:1). He wasn't simply saying he will bless the Lord sometimes or when things are going the way he might want them to. No he says he will bless the Lord at ALL times!

David goes on to say: “I sought the Lord, and He heard me, and delivered me from all my fears.” (Psalm 34:4). The situation I’m walking through hasn’t magically resolved overnight, but something inside me has shifted. My soul feels steadier because I’m remembering who is actually in control.

“Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the man who trusts in Him.” (Psalm 34:8)

If you’ve never experienced the Lord as your peace, your strength, or your deliverer, David is essentially saying: try Him. Taste and see. Trust Him and watch what He does.

I love the reminder that we can't just do whatever we want, live however we want or treat people any way we want, no clearly we should “Depart from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it.” (Psalm 34:14) That verse spoke directly into the business situation I’m navigating right now. Every part of me wants to rush toward legal solutions. Sadly I may have to, but before I do, I’m asking the Lord how He wants me to respond. I want to pursue peace before anything else.

Every part of today's scripture was so comforting and the absolute reminders I needed to hear! Im just so Grateful the Lord is near when Im sad. He is near when I don't understand what's happening and He is trustworthy. I know I needed ALL. OF. THIS. TODAY. I can't wait to encourage others with this too. “The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart.” (Psalm 34:18)

That reminder meant everything for me today. I get discouraged, I feel like Im being taken for granted often and especially today I feel taken advantage of. Every part of me wants to stand up for myself and teach someone a lesson. I love knowing the Lord is especially near in all of it!

If you are walking through something hard today, Psalm 34 is a beautiful place to sit for a while.

Seek the Lord. Taste and see that He is good. Trust Him to meet you right where you are.
