1 Kings 3: The Prayer I Keep Coming Back To

This has to be one of my favorite verses in the entire Bible. As someone who’s led in different ways—as a single mom, as the oldest child and grandchild in my family, and in leadership roles throughout my life—this feels like such an incredible blessing AND of course a weighty one.
“I will give you what you asked for! I will give you a wise and understanding heart such as no one else has had or ever will have! And I will also give you what you did not ask for—riches and fame! No other king in all the world will be compared to you for the rest of your life!”—1 Kings 3:12-13 NLT
It reminds me that leadership isn’t something to take lightly. Every time I read this, I find myself praying, Lord, don’t let me get tangled up in the patterns of this world. Keep transforming my mind, day by day.

I don’t just want to be smart. I want to be discerning. I want to lead with a gentle, kind heart. I want to steward well anything and everything You, Lord, entrust to me—whether it’s people, influence, opportunities, or even the quiet moments that no one sees.
