1 Kings 3: The Prayer I Keep Coming Back To

This has to be one of my favorite verses in the entire Bible. As someone who’s led in different ways—as a single mom, as the oldest child and grandchild in my family, and in leadership roles throughout my life—this feels like such an incredible blessing AND of course a weighty one.

“I will give you what you asked for! I will give you a wise and understanding heart such as no one else has had or ever will have! And I will also give you what you did not ask for—riches and fame! No other king in all the world will be compared to you for the rest of your life!”‭‭—1 Kings‬ ‭3‬:‭12‬-‭13‬ ‭NLT‬

It reminds me that leadership isn’t something to take lightly. Every time I read this, I find myself praying, Lord, don’t let me get tangled up in the patterns of this world. Keep transforming my mind, day by day.

I don’t just want to be smart. I want to be discerning. I want to lead with a gentle, kind heart. I want to steward well anything and everything You, Lord, entrust to me—whether it’s people, influence, opportunities, or even the quiet moments that no one sees.
