Okay—first of all, I just absolutely love this entire chapter. Ruth’s story is one of my favorites, and today, this little phrase stood out to me: “Go, my daughter.” It’s not even a full verse, but something about it pulled at my heart.

“Go, my daughter.” Ruth 2:2b NKJV

I’ve been married before, and I didn’t necessarily have that kind of relationship with my mother-in-law. But I’ve experienced that kind of love—being called daughter—in other unexpected places. Through deep friendships. Through mentors. Through spiritual family.

There have been moments in my life where I felt let down by my own family… when I wished things looked different, or that the support I needed came from a certain direction and it just didn’t. And yet, when I look back, I can clearly see how God filled in those gaps in ways I never could’ve imagined. That’s what I see in Naomi and Ruth’s story. A love that wasn’t obligated, but chosen. Family that was formed through loyalty, through trial, and through God’s hand at work behind the scenes.

This verse reminds me that God always has our back. And if we’re looking for it—we’ll see the ways He’s showing up, even in the smallest ways, the simplest gestures, and the most surprising people.
