“Therefore, he is the mediator of a new covenant, so that those who are called might receive the promise of the eternal inheritance, because a death has taken place for redemption from the transgressions committed under the first covenant.”
Hebrews 9:15 CSB
I am reading Practicing the Way, by John Mark Comer, and I love the way he talks about the power of Grace versus willpower on page 85, “You cannot keep the law by trying not to break the law. You cannot become more loving by trying to become more loving, no matter how much self effort you bring to the table it takes a transformation in our inner being. Again, this isn’t saying it negates the role of self effort because that is a key to spiritual formation, but it is a synergistic relationship between our willpower and God's spirit (power). Our effort and grace are partners!” I love that.
I suffer from a the disease of "self-reliance." I don't know when I started believing the lie, "If it's going to be, it's up to me," but I know it's very lonely living life this way. It also doesn't work! Unfortunately this is a very hard habit to break and yet I'm here for it. My life has become so unmanageable running it according to what Kami thinks is best. Im no longer going to direct the show. Ive decided the Lord will do a much better job.
