📖 2 Chronicles 28:23 (NKJV)“ For he sacrificed to the gods of Damascus which had defeated him, saying, ‘Because the gods of the kings of Syria help them, I will sacrifice to them that they may help me.’ But they were the ruin of him and of all Israel.”
Ahaz watched Syria succeed and thought, maybe their gods are helping them — I’ll do what they’re doing. It sounds crazy reading it now, BUT how many of us do this every day? Looks like a comparison trap to me!
When something seems to be working for someone else — the way they parent, build a business, lead a ministry, even the way they live —we are pulled to It. That whisper that says, maybe if I do it like them, I’ll get their results. Clearly that logic Isn't the way. Ahaz’s imitation didn’t help him —

it ruined him. WE who follow others can totally relate. When we operate outside of the Lord's will for us, or conform and do what others are doing...we are not operating honestly.
It makes me realize how easy it is to lose sight of the fact that what works for others isn’t always what’s right for me. The danger isn’t just in comparison. It’s in compromise disguised as “strategy.”
Ahaz wasn’t evil because he wanted success — he was desperate for help. He turned to imitation instead of intimacy. He looked sideways when he should’ve looked up. Today, Lets ask ourselves... where am I tempted to copy others? Where am I chasing what’s “working” instead of walking with the One who works all things together for my good?
