"Respect the Lord's authority. Be careful to do your job well. The Lord our God is always fair. So be fair to everyone, whoever they are. Do not cheat people. Do not accept bribes.” 2 Chronicles 19:7 (EASY)
It's so easy to read things like this and think naturally, I’d never take a bribe or show favoritism. Most of us would never intentionally that is, but this isn’t just about corruption — it’s about the quiet places in our hearts that still need refining.
I can be doing everything to the best of my ability — genuinely trying to honor God — and still get in my own way. Even when I think I’m being fair, I have blind spots. We all do. Those hidden parts of us that color how we see situations, people, or even ourselves. That’s why this verse reminds me it’s not enough to just do my job well; I must stay connected to the vine or I wiil produce no fruit. It's a constant intention of checking my motives, my assumptions, and the way I interpret things. Sometimes I don’t even realize when me is still in the way.
Then there is the reality that fairness in God’s eyes isn’t just about behavior — it’s about humility. It’s about staying aware that I don’t always see the full picture. Im so thankful He does.
