“And his heart took delight in the ways of the Lord; moreover he removed the high places and wooden images from Judah.” 2 Chronicles 17:6 NKJV
His heart took delight in the ways of the Lord. Did I read that correctly? Im trying to think when, if ever, I have delighted in the rules or discipline. Ha! Maybe when I feel good about myself but that is typically a product of doing what Im asked or what is suggested.
I started thinking about what it really means to delight in something.
It’s not obligation.
It’s not going through the motions.
It’s finding joy and satisfaction — not because you have to, but because you want to.
Imagine being so captivated by who the Lord is that obedience and righteousness aren’t a burden, but a joy. That’s what I want — to reach a place where discipline and His guidance for right living feel like an opportunity, not a challenge.
Obedience isn’t about restriction; it’s about protection. Righteousness isn’t about performance; it’s about proximity — living in rhythm with His heart. That’s what it means to truly delight in the Lord.
