The NKJV says he “did not prepare.”
The NIV says he “did not set.”
The CSB says he “did not determine.”
All of those words—prepare, set, determine—imply a decision made beforehand.
Preparation is something I find myself talking about a lot. It’s something I regularly teach and coach others on. Whether I’m teaching time management, juggling the mom life/work life, or helping others In the area of finances—preparation always matters.
I’ve always believed tithing isn’t just about money—it’s about order. It’s deciding ahead of time that God gets the first tenth of all you make. It’s not waiting to see what’s left after the bills, the extras, or the comfort spending. The tithe is preparation—it’s a pre-decision.
As I read this verse, the Holy Spirit started showing me that obedience works the same way. If I don’t prepare my heart, I’ll hesitate when obedience costs something. If I don’t set my heart, my emotions will. If I don’t determine to seek Him first, distraction will determine it for me.
We don’t “coast” when it comes to following Jesus—we’re either moving toward Him or away from Him.
When we prepare our hearts, obedience isn’t a reaction. It's the overflow!
If It's true that, success leaves clues, or the lack thereof than what a powerful lesson we can draw from Rehoboam's life... Setting our heart is a daily act of preparation—deciding in advance who we will follow, trust, and obey. There are plenty of areas in my life this makes sense and comes naturally for me. There are too many others that aren't! #StillLearning #AlwaysGrowing #Intentional
