“So Hanun seized David’s ambassadors and shaved off half of each man’s beard, cut off their robes at the buttocks, and sent them back to David in shame.”‭‭2 Samuel‬ ‭10‬:‭4‬ ‭NLT‬‬

I’ve read this verse multiple times today in different translations, just trying to wrap my head around all the unnecessary drama the Ammonites brought on themselves. David literally came to show kindness. They started a war. Over nothing.

All of this could have been avoided had Hanun taken a minute. What If he had weighed his options and responses or simply thought about, prayed on and asked some questions. Instead he was lead by fear, bad advice, and assumptions. This chapter has me asking—how often do I create unnecessary trouble in my life by jumping to conclusions, assuming the worst, or letting fear be louder than wisdom?

A great example recently has been when someone goes quiet on me. Maybe they aren't responding to texts or there's a sense they are pulling away. Why is my first instinct, “What did I do wrong?” instead of,“Lord, what might they be walking through—and how can I pray?”

I want to be a woman who slows down, seeks wisdom, and stays curious. It's way too easy to let our thoughts run wild!

The enemy loves chaos, but the Spirit leads us in peace.
