"…And that is how God will bless my descendants, because He has made an eternal covenant with me, an agreement that will not be broken, a promise that will not be changed. That is all I desire; that will be my victory, and God will surely bring it about.” 2 Samuel 23:3, 5 (GNT)

One of the reasons I love reading the Bible slowly, chapter by chapter, is that it gives me space to notice things that would’ve flown right past me otherwise. This morning, I sat with this passage in a few different translations—and at first, I was confused. One version made it sound like David was saying all these blessings were happening because of his righteousness. I instantly had this little theological alarm go off inside me. David...righteous...chosen for sure, but perfect...not so much.

He was called a man after God’s own heart—but perfect...No way.

The more I dug, the more I realized—he wasn’t boasting in himself. He was in awe of the covenant. The unshakable, God-initiated, God-secured covenant that would carry his family long

after he was gone. That was his victory. That was his confidence. Here's the cool thing...what David celebrated back then is still our confidence today. We are not upheld by our performance. Our story is anchored in God’s promises. Not one of them will be broken. The longer I walk with the Lord, the more I realize when something feels “off” in the Word, it’s often an invitation to dig deeper.

Im so thankful we are held by His Covenant, not by our track record.

When anything feels "off" when reading the Word trust It as a sign to dig a little deeper. Don't just read the Bible "as is" if you will. Talk to a paster, take it into Bible study, pray about it, do a little conversing with chat gpt or even read the same part of scripture across several translations to see if it breeds deeper revelation and greater clarity. Bottom line, trust that Holy Spirit twinge as an invitation to go deeper with the Lord. Ive seen it happen for me time and time again!
