“Yet the chief butler did not remember Joseph, but forgot him.” Genesis 40:23 NKJV
It’s really hard to imagine how the cupbearer could forget about Joseph. I know the human condition is selfishness and self centeredness but my goodness the dreams Joseph interpreted were so spot on I couldn't imagine forgetting what had happened whether I was self centered or not. Inevitably this particular circumstance comes down to timing.
If we believe God is in control we will trust His timing regardless of how others come through for us or don't. It wasn't Joseph's time. It's hard to not feel forgotten or betrayed when things don't go how we might anticipate. I can only imagine how Joseph may have felt. Regardless where we may find ourselves, how long we may be waiting on something or someone, how we wait matters. I love how David in the Psalms goes from feelings of anguish to assurance. In Psalms 31:14 he declares his belief, “But I trust in you, Lord; I say, “You are my God.””
Peter Scazzero quotes “When we truly trust God, we see that both the good and the hard times are sent from His hand for our ultimate good.” This means that both good and hard times are one and the same. It's easy to say, "don't fret" when things are going well until your world falls apart. Resting in the Lord isn't about what is happening around us, it solely depends on our relationship with God.
Here are a few of my favorite verses and songs. I truly believe our weapons of warfare include worship and the Word of God.
“Though the fig tree does not blossom And there is no fruit on the vines, Though the yield of the olive fails And the fields produce no food, Though the flock is cut off from the fold And there are no
cattle in the stalls, Yet I will [choose to] rejoice in the Lord; I will [choose to] shout in exultation in the [victorious] God of my salvation! [Rom 8:37]”. Habakkuk 3:17-18 AMP
"but those who trust in the Lord will renew their strength; they will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not become weary, they will walk and not faint.” Isaiah 40:31 CSB
