It was hard not to read ahead. Yesterday I wanted so badly to see how this reunion went between Esau and Jacob. Im glad we read one chapter a day. There was so much in yesterday's text I would have missed had I jumped ahead. Isn't that just like humans. (OR maybe being in a hurry is just me! LOL)
“He himself went on ahead and bowed to the ground seven times until he approached his brother.
But Esau ran to meet him, hugged him, threw his arms around him, and kissed him. Then they wept.
What stood out to me was all the wisdom Jacob had in being back face to face with his brother after so many years. It’s not like there were phones. He technically had no idea what kind of state of mind Esau would be in. He prayed a lot, took ALOT of precautions AND had a spirit of humility for sure. What a reminder of the reality that the only person we can control is ourselves. I see him doing all he can to reconnect in the healthiest way possible for himself and his family!
So Esau said, “What do you mean by this whole procession I met?” “To find favor with you, my Lord,” he answered.”
Genesis 33:3-4, 8 CSB
Even after their reconciliation Jacob had some serious boundaries. Again Im just seeing how much wisdom Jacob is displayed through this whole process. It would be so easy to follow his brother, when in reality, he continued on to fulfill the command God had given him to return home.
“That day Esau started on his way back to Seir, but Jacob went to Succoth. He built a house for himself and shelters for his livestock; that is why the place was called Succoth.”
Genesis 33:16-17 CSB
