“‘Now suppose two men are fighting, and in the process they accidentally strike a pregnant woman so she gives birth prematurely. If no further injury results, the man who struck the woman must pay the amount of compensation the woman’s husband demands and the judges approve.’”
Exodus 21:22 NLT
Exodus 21 shows that God values life in the womb just as much as life outside the womb. This is so much bigger than being “pro-life”. The Bible talks often about providing for and caring for
others. How amazing is it that we get to see a glimpse of the Father’s character in this chapter? God's character and principles of justice and mercy are certainly on display here. This passage also foreshadows the coming of Christ, who would fulfill these principles. This passage challenges us to consider how these laws can be applied in the modern world and to live out God's ways of love and righteousness.
How is can you do more to care for those who are less fortunate?
Prayer:
Lord, open my eyes so that I can see the way You see. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
