2 Samuel 5:23 (NIV)
“So David inquired of the Lord, and he answered, ‘Do not go straight up, but circle around behind them and attack them in front of the poplar trees.’”
What an eye-opening display of submission. David doesn’t assume how—or even if—he should fight the Philistines. He inquires again.
I probably would’ve just done what worked the last time. It just happened. I already asked, and He said yes. So I’d be like, “They’re back? Let’s go. Repeat the strategy, right?”
Not David. He asks again.
I don’t feel convicted in a harsh way right now, but I do feel aware. Aware that I have the King of the universe with me, in me, and available to me. So why on earth wouldn’t I check in with Him—especially when His ways are so much better than mine?
Such a cool reminder for me this morning. I want to be someone who keeps asking. Not just for the big, obvious moments but in the everyday decisions too.
