“how much more, when wicked men have slain a righteous person in his own house upon his bed? shall I not therefore now require his blood of your hand, and take you away from the earth?”

2 Samuel 4:11 KJV

I ask the Lord often to give me fresh perspective when I open the Word—especially when I’m about to read a familiar passage. It’s wild how sometimes, even after through a 3rd and 4th time

it can feel like the 1st time Im reading a particular story or detail.

As we’ve read through the transition from Saul as king to David, Im in awe by how deeply merciful David was. Not just to Saul, but to Saul’s entire family.  Yes Saul asked him to, but David had every reason to retaliate or to cut ties, instead he kept his word. He honored Saul. He honored Jonathan. He did right by their entire household.

Immediately I can’t help but think he’s a true reflection of Christ. David’s mercy didn’t make sense. He showed compassion and honor in places most of us wouldn’t. Yet that’s exactly what Christ has done for me. For us. He has every right to be done with us, to cut us off and to hand us over to the consequences of our choices.  Instead, He extends kindness, He keeps His promises and continues to cover us with grace.

Reading this today reminds me how upside-down the Kingdom really is In comparison to our human perspective. Where we might expect revenge, God shows restraint. Where we’d justify pulling back, He leans in. It's all Just incredible. The whole idea of Who Christ is.

Also, what a great reminder that when we spend intimate and consistent time with the Lord, we can’t help but mirror and reflect His glory.

The more of Christ I see in me, the more of him I want
