“They also kept the Feast of Tabernacles, as it is written, and offered the daily burnt offerings in the number required by ordinance for each day.” Ezra 3:4 NKJV
Some translations say they kept the Feast of Tabernacles, others say they celebrated the Feast of Booths. The GNT calls it the Feast of Shelters, and another translation simply says the Festival of Huts.
Right away I could tell it was meant to be a good thing. I did a little research, prayed about it, and this is what stood out to me: the whole purpose was remembering that God was with them the entire time they were in the wilderness. It wasn’t about their faithfulness or their obedience. It was about who He was. It was a celebration of His presence with them in a season that wasn’t easy.
I needed that reminder today. I’m doing some major personal work right now, and it helps to remember that no matter where I am or what I’m working through, God is with me. This whole festival was basically a big reminder that we have a God who stays close and doesn’t leave us—wilderness or not.
