This is my 2nd reflection from 2 Kings 5! I can't help it. The Word is so giving!! Im so glad I jumped on Bible study today where I received EVEN MORE from today's reading after sharing and digging deeper with the ladies reading along with me! Absolutely incredible:
“He went back into the house, and Elisha asked him, ‘Where have you been?’ ‘Oh, nowhere, sir,’ he answered.”—2 Kings 5:25 GNT
He walked with Elisha. He saw miracle after miracle. He was witness to the double-portion anointing that rested on Elisha’s life...and still, Gehazi thought he knew better what he needed. That’s the ugly reality of the flesh—and sadly, I see it in myself too. Self-reliance is a hard habit to break.
Proximity to power, holiness, or anointing doesn’t exempt us from temptation. The flesh always whispers, “Just this once… nobody will know.” But sin always takes us further than we wanted to go, and costs more than we ever planned to pay.
Paul reminds us in 1 Corinthians 15:31, “I die daily.” Surrender isn’t a one-time decision; it’s a daily rhythm. Even in the presence of great anointing, the flesh can still scheme, desire, and deceive. There Is still hope, there really Is. The Spirit inside us is greater than the pull of sin.
It's as If the Lord is saying:
Do not rely on your nearness to others’ anointing—rely on My Spirit within you. Walk by the Spirit daily, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.
What a reminder for us today!!!!
Lord, today I confess how strong my flesh can be, even when I’ve seen Your miracles and walked closely with You. Help me not to lean on my own strength or the covering of others, but to choose Your Spirit over my flesh daily. Teach me to die to myself, moment by moment, and rise in Your power. Protect me from deception and keep my heart pure before You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
