The role of the priests was so juch more than I ever realized. “Ministering” wasn’t limited to preaching or leading worship songs. They were guarding, keeping watch over all the things,

worshiping, tending to the temple, and everything in between. Their return first laid the foundation for everyone else to follow.

“The first of the exiles to return to their property in their former towns were priests, Levites, Temple servants, and other Israelites… They were responsible for ministering at the house of God.”1 Chronicles 9:2, 13 NLT

Ministry isn’t just a title or a platform—it’s truly a mindset for how we approach anything in front of us. Colossians 3:23 says, “Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people.”

For me, when I remember that, the everyday things—driving kids to practice, answering emails, folding laundry—suddenly look different. They aren’t “just tasks.” They’re opportunities to minister to

the Lord by the way I do them. I think back to the summer after my sophomore year of college when I spent a couple months serving with YWAM in Ensenada, Mexico. I came home convinced I wanted to go into full-time ministry. I wanted to work in missions and outreach! At the same time I had a very real sense the Lord was saying “no” to me serving in the traditional way—as a missionary by title—yet “yes” to living on mission for Him wherever He placed me.

Ministry might not look look the same for any of us. It may not be serving in a pulpit or a missions trip overseas. Sometimes it looks like doing dishes with joy, running your business with integrity, or showing up for your family with patience.

Are we treating what’s right in front of us as ministry to Him, no matter where He has us?
