“Now these were the men who came to David at Ziklag while he was still a fugitive from Saul the son of Kish; and they were among the mighty men, helpers in the war.”1 Chronicles 12:1 NKJV
This morning it was the word fugitive for me. And in other translations it was said as in banished! Banished from the very place and people the Lord said he would be king! WHAT!?!
Fugitive — a person running away or in hiding, especially to avoid arrest or persecution. Synonyms: runaway, exile, outcast, refugee, wanderer.
Banished — to be sent away from a place as an official punishment. Synonyms: expelled, rejected, cast out, driven away.
David was living as a fugitive, unwanted and unwelcome, while at the very same time God had already named him king of that very place. How could he have possibly seen this coming In the way It did? It makes me think of the many places in Scripture where God promises restoration, even when everything looks lost:
“I will restore to you the years that the swarming locust has eaten.” (Joel 2:25)
“Instead of your shame you shall have double honor.” (Isaiah 61:7)
“After you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace… will Himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you.” (1 Peter 5:10)
“The Lord will perfect that which concerns me.” (Psalm 138:8)
David’s identity wasn’t determined by being labeled a fugitive—it was defined by what God had already spoken over him. That same truth is ours to hold onto today no matter what we may be facing. This Is a very Intentional and on time word for me today. What God has promised, He will bring to pass.
Do you feel you are fighting a battle you were never meant to fight? No matter what comes your way, the Lord has already overcome. He said it and He will do it! He's already won it friend! Believe it :). Allow this song to wash over you today: You've Already Won
Take heart! We have the HOPE in knowing how the story ends with our Savior and Defense. No Fear!
