“And Abram, later known as Abraham.” 1 Chronicles 1:27 NLT

There are so many names in this opening chapter that I don’t recognize, but then there are a few I do—and Abraham is one of them. It can feel overwhelming if we let it, but I love drawing connections in Scripture and seeing where everyone falls from the very beginning. One thing I keep learning is this: if it’s in the Bible, it’s significant. There’s always a message tucked inside.

This book of the Bible was written to a people returning from exile, unsure if they still belonged. Every name mattered because it tied them back to God’s promises and their identity.

I can’t help but think 🤔 of my adopted sons as I read this today. Every time a school project asks them to build a family tree, it highlights how much of their story is unknown. As a woman who was raised in a home with both parents in my life, it’s hard to understand how I can have so much trauma, if you will, it truly is hard to fathom what my boys have experienced. Sometimes I think, what’s my problem… but the enemy loves to steal from all of us, doesn’t he?

What a comfort that in God’s Word, the genealogy leads us straight to David’s line—and from there, to Christ. We are all adopted in many ways. Very few of us aren’t. That’s the GOOD NEWS, where we ALL come in. Through Him, we’ve been grafted into the family of God, fully adopted, fully known, fully His.

Truly, whether we know our biological parents or we don’t—whether relationships are whole, estranged, or complicated—I love the reminder today that we belong to the Lord.
