1 Chonicles 14: The Secret Sauce

“So David inquired of God again…” 1 Chronicles 14:10, 14

David inquired of the Lord before going into battle—and he won. What surprised me is that when the enemy came back a second time, He inquired of the Lord again. As a leader in business, basketball coach, teacher of many years I often lead on my own understanding or move forward with confidence of what has worked before. Not David. He inquired. What an example that is for me.

I know how easy it is to think, “Oh, I’ve been here before. I know what to do.” My instinct is to go straight to the play that worked last time. Oh not David. He's setting quite the example. David didn’t lean on his last victory. He leaned on the Lord.

This is re-shaping the way I’m thinking about obedience. It’s not just about doing the right thing one time—it’s about learning to live in step with God, moment by moment. It’s not assuming I already know the way, but constantly asking, “Lord, how do You want me to handle this situation? What’s Your strategy here?”
