Two different parts of chapter 12 jumped out at me. At first I thought they were very different and then as I continued to meditate on today's scripture, I recognized they were more alike than I
realized. "Follow me, and I will make you into a great nation. I will exceedingly bless and prosper you, and I will make you famous, so that you will be a tremendous source of blessing for others.”
Genesis 12:2 TPT.
Abram truly had divine favor. Abram was chosen; he was set apart. God made an incredible covenant with him. It was not because he earned it and he was not chosen because he had some great talent. He was simply hand picked by God.
“When the Egyptian men take one look at you, they will say, ‘She is his wife.’ Then they will kill me in order to have you. Just tell them you are my sister so that they will treat me well for your sake and spare my life.” Genesis 12:12-13 TPT.
I was blown away with Abram's idea of how to protect himself. Was he even thinking about Sarai? Fear truly causes us to act out of character. Far too many times in my life have I
concocted a plan for how I think things should be done and especially in the times fear gets ahold of me. It's in these times I can totally forget to include the very one who always knows what's best for me. It's like I move on autopilot. I completely fall into old habits of self-reliance. Even the best laid plans don't get me very far when I make my own plans apart from Christ. Even though Abram made plans, we see the Lord faithfully direct his steps. Talk about divine favor!
It reminds me of the song, Sparrows. "...He takes good care of me."
