“So the people complained to Moses, “Give us water to drink.” “Why are you complaining to me?” Moses replied to them. “Why are you testing the Lord?”
Moses must be tired. I am not sure if he is not on his game or simply does NOT know the power of Vision, Transfer Belief and Remembering, as excellent tools in leading well. Im certainly no pro,
but I was thinking as I read this morning, how I might lead in this moment differently then what Im seeing.
Moses has been through the same trials and miracles. He’s experienced it all. As the Israelites have seen miracle after miracle I am shocked of their constant complaining and negativity. Now
Im not saying being in the wilderness isn't scary, I just hope if I were in this position leading I may try a few ways to get the group in a better place mentally.
I’m hoping I would dig my heals in and remind them of Gods goodness this far. (In a kind and compassionate way of course! In a gentle, loving and strong confident tone). It would be helpful to remind the Israelites of how faithful He’s been. It reminds me of the reality that vision leaks. As a leader we must constantly cast vision and build belief. I truly believe belief is contagious. I would pray with them and over them, modeling the reality that we can simply ask for what we need. I would hope part of what I do to build their belief in the God of their ancestors would be to remind them of Gods character based on past experiences they have already witnessed.
“While Moses held up his hand, Israel prevailed, but whenever he put his hand down, Amalek prevailed.”
Exodus 17:2, 11 CSB
And I just love this part because as I just mention the power of belief transfer, casting vision, and remembering… Im also reminded that GREAT leaders have bad days too, and how much we need a strong community around us who can help lift us up when we are weak.
To all the leaders out there, what tools might you use to combat all this negativity and fear!?
